I am the watcher. I am the symbol of global peace. Everytime I pass over your location, I am the lamp for your feet and the guide for your imagination. I am watching and protecting you for as long as my coordinates are within your horizon. You are my witnesses in spirit and truth.

Icoana Spațială is a blank frame with LED borders which light up when the International Space Station(ISS) passes over its current location. Depending on the trajectory of the station this event can occur from multiple times per day to once in a couple of days. It usually lasts a few minutes during which time the LEDs are turned on. The trajectory as long as the radius of the ISS field of view can be observed realtime at this address http://www.isstracker.com/. The installation is accompanied by a live stream, part of the HDEV project by NASA, streaming live videos from cameras mounted on the ISS.

Icoana spațială is an allegory to religious and technological matters, both of which are strongly embedded in our modern society, yet when combined they generate a strong polarization. Arguably both technological advancements and religious beliefs provide answers to human dilemmas regarding the desire to have an overseer - a superhuman entity that watches and protects. In this sense International Space Station provides an overview of our planet, akin to a God, it combines scientists of all nationalities working closely together for the benefit of mankind.

Taking the form of an icon(ideally positioned in the corner of the exhibited place), Icoană Spațială is a work that blurs the borders between science and spirituality, merging into a single journey for finding answers to life.
